Call for applications: Swiss scholarships for international arts students
African art students wishing to pursue a master's degree in Switzerland in the 2021-22 academic year can now apply for the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for Foreign Scholars and Artists.
The scholarships are awarded annually through the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) to promote international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and more than 180 other countries. The scholarships are also awarded to young researchers from abroad who have completed a master's degree or PhD.
Applications will be vetted by the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS), which is composed of professors from all Swiss public universities.

Selected applicants will be notified by the end of May 2021.
Eligibility
Art students from the following countries can apply:
- Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, Comoros, Djibouti, DRC, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria and Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Requirements
- A short CV.
- Letter of motivation.
- Letters of reference (3 max).
- Research plan (3 pages max).
The scholarship selection is based on:
- Candidate profile.
- Quality of the research project or artistic work.
- Synergies and potential for future research cooperation.
NOTE:
- Recipients are selected by the awarding body, FCS.
- Scholarships for the 2022-23 academic year will be advertised online from August 2021.
- The application process for a Swiss government scholarship is free of charge.
- Scholarship awards are decided on the basis of academic and scientific excellence.
