Call for artists: Puisano live music programme in Gauteng, SA
The provincial Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation in Gauteng, South Africa is inviting jazz bands to audition for its annual Puisano Live Music Performance programme.
The Puisano programme is aimed at selecting top bands to promote live music performance in communities, while also offering the bands market penetration and opportunities to tour the province. Bands selected through the audition process will participate in a range of live performance showcases billed to take place across the province.
Auditions for this year's programme are set to take place on the following days between 9am and 4pm:
- 7 May: Museum Africa, Newtown, Johannesburg
- 15 May: Town Hall, Vereeniging
- 21 May: Es’kia Mphahlele Library Hall, Tshwane
- 28 May: Germiston City Hall, Ekurhuleni
“Since its inception in 2000, the Puisano Live Music Performance programme has proven to be a great platform for aspiring jazz musicians to develop and reach new audiences,” said MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Faith Mazibuko. “Puisano is another way to promote Gauteng province as a home of great live music.”
Requirements
Interested groups are expected to be based in Gauteng. They must not be signed to any recording company, nor have participated in Puisano in the past three years. The band must consist of four or more members. All band members must be 18 years or older
Bands must perform everything live at the audition – no backing tracks are allowed! Bands must play for between 10 and 20 minutes and can perform up to three songs (either original songs or covers). Ten minutes will be provided for setup and sound check
