Call for comments: Management of the music sector in Kenya
The Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) is inviting comments and proposals from music stakeholders on the management of the sector.
KECOBO is mandated with the administration and enforcement of copyright and related rights. Its board is responsible for organising legislation on copyright and related rights, conducting training programmes on copyright and related rights, informing the public on matters related to copyright, licensing and supervising the activities of collective management organisations (CMOs) and maintaining an effective databank of authors and their works.
The CMOs licensed to collect royalties in the music sector include the:
- Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK).
- Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK).
- Kenya Association of Music Producers (KAMP).
Interested individuals, groups, associations or firms can submit comments and proposals in the form of written memoranda, addressing the following issues:
- Proposals towards the resumption of collection.
- Proposals on management and control of administrative costs.
- The future structure of music CMOs.
- Strengthening the role of members.
- Identification of genuine members of the CMOs.
- Tariffs during the transition.
- Any other matter relating to the management of CMOs in Kenya.
