Call for entries: 2019 International Composers Competition in Bulgaria
Composers from around the world are invited to apply for the 2019 International Composers Competition in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Now in its 15 edition, the competition is open to young performers from around the world and provides participants with the opportunity to:
- Compete and communicate with their peers.
- Explore and exchange original ideas.
- Interpret classical and contemporary music.
- Present their talent to eminent musicians who have proven themselves on the global music scene.
This edition seeks to honour Bulgarian composer, pedagogue and pianist Pancho Vladigerov who died on 8 September 1978. Vladigerov composed and experimented with various music genres.
Entrants for this call are therefore required to submit works associated with Vladigerov’s 120th birthday anniversary.
The application deadline is 2 December 2019.
Interested participants should pay a registration fee of €30 (about $33) in order to submit works in either of the two categories:
Piano works
This will include one or more compositions for solo piano with duration up to six minutes written in particular for the Pancho Vladigerov competition.
Compositions for chamber ensemble
This will include one or more compositions for chamber ensemble up to three performers with duration up to 10 minutes written in particular for the Pancho Vladigerov competition. Each category will be judged by a special international jury.
Requirements
All requirements must be sent to vladigerovcompetition@abv.bg.
- Application form with an eight-digit code, a specified composer’s name and title of the work.
- A document certifying the participant is below the age of 35 years old.
- Two artistic photos (JPG, 800 x 500).
- A short biography of the participant.
- A PDF file of one or more compositions.
- A bank receipt of paid registration fee of €30 for each submitted work.
Note that the cover and the first page of the work should not contain the author’s name. Only an eight-digit code on the cover page should be specified.
Prizes
The three winners in each category will be awarded a laureate diploma along with a cash prize of:
- First prize – 4 000 Bulgarian levs (about $2 300)
- Second prize – 3 000 levs.
- Third prize – 2 000 levs.
