Call for entries: 2022 Petrichor International Music Competition
Instrumentalists, singers, ensembles, and composers from around the world are invited to apply for the 2022 edition of the Petrichor International Music Competition.
The annual musical performance and composition contest seeks to provide support, inspiration, and exposure to instrumentalists and singers from around the world. Prizes worth $60 000 will be awarded to winners and finalists in 12 categories. Interested participants should apply here before 20 May.
Winners will:
- Receive a Petrichor Premium Promotion Package (PPPP) including press/media exposure, online recital, feature on the Petrichor website, and an official certificate.
- Receive a six-month iClassical Academy Master Member access (worth $144).
- Participate in a webinar with the CEO of iClassical Academy about music and career for a group of 20 people (worth $350).
All finalists will:
- Receive a three-month iClassical Academy Master Member access (worth $72).
Participation will be conducted entirely online, and the musicians will be asked to submit either video, score, or audio of their work.
Eligibility
The competition is open to instrumentalists, singers, ensembles, and composers of all ages and nationalities. All musicians are welcome to apply. The Petrichor artistic panel and the jurors will carefully review submissions individually and without regard for age, nationality, gender, or musical style.
Instruments
All instruments are welcome for this competition.
Repertoire
There is no specific repertoire required to participate in this competition. Each performer has the freedom to determine which piece or pieces to perform. The selected piece could be drawn from a standard repertoire, composed by a living composer, or an original work by the performer. The chosen piece will not affect the jury’s decision-making process. Singers may choose repertoire in any language.
Jury panel
Applications will be reviewed by a jury panel consisting of world-renowned musicians from The Juilliard School, Berklee College of Music, Eastman School of Music, and Mannes School of Music. The jury panel members remain anonymous until the announcement of the winners.
Categories:
- Solo performers under the age of 16 (born in or after 2006) – Total cash prizes: $1 000
- Solo performers under the age of 21 (born in or between 2001-2005) – Total cash prizes: $2 000
- Solo performers over the age of 21 (born in or before 2000) – Total cash prizes: $3000
- Small ensembles (fewer than 9 performers) – Total cash prizes: $3 000
- Large ensembles/orchestras/choirs (more than 9 performers) – Total cash prizes: $4 000
- Composers under the age of 21 (born in or after 2001) – Total cash prizes: $2 000
- Composers over the age of 21 (born in or before 2000) – Total cash prizes: $3 000
- Electronic compositions or multidisciplinary works – Total cash prizes: $2 000
- Film/game/animation music – Total cash prizes: $2 000
- Arrangements of pre-existing works – Total cash prizes: $2 000
- Improvisation (any genre and instrumentation) – Total cash prizes: $2 000
- Best album (performance or composition) – Total cash prizes: $4 000
