Call for entries: MTN Y'ello Star music talent search in Liberia
Applications are ongoing for the MTN Y'ello Star music competition in Liberia. The contest seeks to offer a platform for undiscovered musicians in the West African country, including singers and rappers, to advance their careers.
It will reward the winner with a prize package comprising a new car, 350 000 Liberian dollars (about $2 000), a record deal worth L$1.5m and a one-year performance deal with Lonestar Cell MTN, which will see the winner perform at MTN-sponsored events including the Liberia Music Awards, among other prizes.
“We believe every hidden star and talent deserves a chance to shine bright,” Lonestar Cell MTN said. “We appreciate the fact that there are huge musical talents hidden in every part of the country, and most times, these talents are at best under-developed. The challenge is that these talents are not given the opportunity to showcase themselves. This is partly due to the fact that many producers lack the resources to go into the nooks and crannies of the country in search of these talents. This is the prime offering of this show – to go in search of these talents.”
To participate, interested individuals can upload a video of themselves performing on Facebook or Instagram, using the hashtag #MTNYelloStar.
