Call for entries: Singing contest in Rwanda
The SupraVoice singing contest in Rwanda has extended its deadline for entries to 30 April 2020 due to a low turnout.
The competition was launched in February and seeks to discover and nurture new talent in Rwanda. The initial deadline was 31 March.
The winner of the contest will take home 1 million Rwandan francs (about $1 000).
One of the contest's organisers, Alphonse Nsengiyumva, told local media that due to the COVID-19 crisis, it was unlikely that people would have prioritised the contest.
“At this point, we would be selecting the finalists but due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Rwanda and the world in general has been disrupted by this pandemic, meaning that all our plans were affected,” he said.
“According to our earlier plan, by now we would be making videos of the finalists for the public to decide, but it now seems impossible as everything has come to a standstill. We hope by the end of April the situation will have normalised."
