Call for entries: Song Contest Against Child Labour in Ghana
The European Union (EU), through the Ghana Employment and Social Protection (GESP) programme, is calling for submissions for the Song Contest Against Child Labour.
The competition is for Ghanaian musicians only, and the deadline for submission is 14 September 2020 (6pm GMT).
Next year marks the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour. In view of this, the contest is aimed at supporting the EU’s campaign against child labour in Ghana. Interested individuals or bands are required to submit potential theme songs for the initiative.
“The objective of this competition is to identify, select and contract a singer or band to compose a theme song for the EU’s Ghana Employment and Social programme’s campaign against child labour, which will be organised around March-April 2021,” a statement on the website of the EU delegation reads.
To enter, applicants can submit their songs electronically by email to gespghanaplus@gmail.com. The files must be in MP3/MP4/YouTube-link format and must not exceed 3MB. The songs must also speak to the quest to eradicate child labour.
Ghanaian singer Wiyaala has been named as a member of the jury for the competition. Other judges will include government representatives as well as those from GESP and the EU.
The winner of the song contest will also become the face of the campaign and the winning song will be part of the global Music Against Child Labour Initiative run by the International Labour Organiation (ILO).
The winner(s) will be announced in the first week of November. There will also be prizes for the first, second and third runners-up.
