Call for participation: Northern Cape Creatives Conference Week in SA
Black Salt Creative Company, in partnership with the National Arts Council, is calling on interested participants to attend the inaugural Northern Cape Creatives Conference Week, to be held in Kimberley, South Africa, from 29 April to 1 May.
- CD Baby Africa's Sakhele Mzalazala will be among the speakers at the event.
The conference will run under the theme Bringing You Solutions of Sustainability and Transformation, and aims to build sustainable careers in the arts and entertainment industry while contributing to the economic growth of the province. It will prepare artists for the modern creative industry and equip them with digital skills and a business-savvy mindset to develop their careers in the fourth industrial revolution (4IR). The event also seeks to create job opportunities as part of the Presidential Employment Stimulus Package (PESP) initiative.
Key speakers will include IBillion executive and producer Jonathan Shaw, CD Baby Africa’s Sakhele Mzalazala, AKC Production’s Arnold Kay and Ping TV’s Evelyn Maruping, among many others. The programme will feature networking sessions, masterclasses and panel discussions on the state of the entertainment industry in the province and possible new strategies to strengthen it. Some topics will include an Introduction to the Music Business, Music Distribution, and Social Media and Content Creation. The conference will also see performances from musicians such as Costa Titch, Lucille Slade and DJ Stokie, among others.

“We are trying to create awareness of the different revenue streams that are available to creatives so that they know how to sustain their careers, especially since the pandemic has forced the industry to go digital,” Black Salt Creative Company project manager Rodrick Mavundla said. He added: “We were also part of the PESP initiative where we had to create jobs via this programme. So far, we've created more than 20 jobs and have been able to book some artists as well.”
