Call for registration: Panel discussion on Africa’s music ecosystem
Not-for-profit organisation Byta is calling on interested participants to register for its online panel discussion titled Understanding Africa’s Music Ecosystem with head of TuneCore in West and East Africa Chioma Onuchukwu on 26 July.
Onuchukwu will be joined by Byta founder Marc Brown who will share tips and insights for tomorrow’s artists and music industry leaders. The panel forms part of the How We Listen series and will tackle important areas including how music from the African continent is influencing the global market, what we can learn from the way music is promoted and distributed in Africa, and how streaming has changed the playing field.
Onuchukwu, who is based in Nigeria, oversees countries in West Africa including Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and the Gambia as well as Tanzania and Ethiopia in East Africa. The music exec is dedicated to understanding and supporting the needs of local artists and securing partnerships beneficial to them.
Key questions during the panel will include:
- How is the African music ecosystem evolving?
- Can partnerships help enter the market?
- What festivals should artists and their teams focus on?
- Where are the most vibrant music scenes on the African continent?
- What makes Nigeria’s music ecosystem so successful?
- Why do we need to pay attention to this growing market?
Before joining TuneCore, Onuchukwu was the marketing manager at uduX, a Nigerian music streaming platform, working with artists like Davido, Yemi Alade, Patoranking and Kizz Daniel.
Owned by the French company Believe, TuneCore is the leading global DIY distributor for independent musicians and labels.
The event will start at 6pm CAT.
