Call for registrations: Free Byta workshop for artists
Registrations are ongoing for the latest edition of music-sharing app Byta’s #HowWeListen Live: In Conversation online series slated for 30 November on Zoom.
Hosted by industry vet and Byta’s founder, Marc Brown, the monthly event comprises a workshop and an in-depth interview session designed to deliver the knowledge to enable emerging artists and industry leaders to better navigate the music ecosystem.
This month’s edition is themed, Fairness in Future: Compensation & Advocacy for Artists and will unfold in two parts:
- A workshop on tips and insights for tomorrow’s artists and music industry leaders with Byta founder Marc Brown.
- An in-depth interview with Future of Music Coalition director Kevin Erickson, whose work with the US-based non-profit sits at the intersection of DIY music, community organising and policy. Erickson, will talk about raising a voice for musicians and creators as fewer of those voices are heard under the weight of the digital world.
Key takeaways:
- How do artists get paid?
- What new technologies are helping artists the most?
- How to strategise music distribution?
- Where are the biggest threats to artists today?
- How can artists protect themselves?
- What can future policies do to help artists?
- What is a developing artist in a developing country to do?
“The FMC’s work is rooted in the real-world experiences and ambitions of working musicians, whose perspectives are often overlooked in policy debates,” a statement reads. “The FMC works with musicians, composers and industry stakeholders to identify solutions to shared challenges. They promote strategies, policies, technologies and educational initiatives that always put artists first while recognising the role music fans play in shaping the future.”
