Call for registrations: Kampala Innovation Week 2020
The organisers of Kampala Innovation Week are inviting interested participants to register for this year’s event, which will be held virtually from 26 to 28 November.
The event will run under the theme Recovery, Resilience, Innovation: Innovation and Entrepreneurship as a Tool for the Youth. It will also feature a panel discussion titled Entertainment as a Medium for Introducing New Technologies by Start-ups to Consumers, which will focus on career development, self-empowerment, and the sharing of practical, actionable information on the industry.
Confirmed panellists include singer Sheebah, rapper Navio, Talent Africa Group CO Aly Allibhai, media personality Douglas Lwanga, Comedy Store director Alex Muhangi and the Katende Ssempebwa & Co Advocates head of entertainment, sports and media law, Louis Lwanga, among others.
Other topics to be discussed include:
- Creative Industries and Innovation.
- The Path Towards a Start-up Act for Uganda.
- Banking on SMEs for an Inclusive, Resilient Economy in Uganda.
- Rethinking the Approach to Start-up Financing.
- Innovation for Humanitarian Response and Development.
- An Ecosystem Approach to Fostering the Resilience and Recovery of the Ugandan Entrepreneur.
The event will seek to achieve the following:
- Explore ways in which SMEs can recover from the COVID-19 crisis and operate in a post-pandemic economy.
- Highlight how various ecosystem stakeholders (ESOs, government, academic bodies, investors etc.) can contribute to these recovery efforts.
- Highlight and showcase entrepreneurs and start-ups are already showing resilience and innovation when tackling the pandemic and its effects.
Additionally, innovators will showcase their innovations after which a selected number of start-up innovators will be able to pitch their projects to potential funders.
