CAPASSO to host YouTube Songwriter Workshop in Joburg
The Composers, Authors and Publishers Association (CAPASSO), in collaboration with YouTube, will host a songwriter workshop at the Academy of Sound Engineering (ASE) in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 21 April from 1.30pm to 3pm.
The workshop, which is open to CAPASSO members and the public, is aimed at educating members on YouTube best practices, content curation, and how best to showcase works on the video platform.
Interested artists can access the workshop remotely here. Virtual access is extremely limited and participants who wish to attend in person should RSVP to capasso3@capasso.co.za before 20 April.
Attendees should bring identification in the form of an ID or driving licence to attend the in-person event.
The workshop will be hosted by the YouTube team, which will focus on imparting knowledge about how to best leverage the streaming platform. The event will feature influential panellists who will join the conversation remotely from the US and UK.
“The YouTube and CAPASSO collaborative workshop will benefit our CAPASSO members as it aims to educate them on YouTube best practices, content curation and how to best showcase their shows on the platform,” CAPASSO CEO Jotam Matariro told Music In Africa.
“The YouTube Songwriter Workshop will open more doors for our members, assist in the importance of notifying works and how to grow their content. We expect our members to walk away equipped and with more understanding on what it means to be on the platform and how to navigate around it.”
Matariro said it was CAPASSO’s duty that the interests of “our members are met and this includes trying to bridge the gap between our members and the digital service providers that we collect royalties on their behalf from.”
Th CAPASSO YouTube Songwriter Workshop comes after the collective management organisation held the CAPASSO 101 workshop in October 2022, which covered topics such as membership, royalty distribution and legal issues.
