Cassper ‘attacks’ journo at SA Hip Hop Awards

The popular rapper walked away with Album of the Year, Hustler of the Year, Most Valuable (MVP), Best Male, Best Video, and Milestone awards.

But things took a violent turn later in the night when Nyovest allegedly attacked hip hop vlogger and writer Thulani Masilela for asking him about a false claim the rapper had made at the weekend. This after Nyovest got widespread flack for boasting on Twitter that he had sold 10 million albums in his career – a feat never reached in the history of South African music.  

Masilela said Nyovest and his crew damaged his camera, took him to a backstage room and confiscated an SD card with footage from the night. They then deleted the files on the card and returned it to the journalist.

The ‘Tito Mboweni’ rapper also called out Tumi Molekane who claimed he was responsible for Nyovest’s success. During one of his six acceptance speeches on the night, Nyovest said: “Tumi, you ain’t done sh*t for me.”

Other notable artists who won include Kwesta for Best Digital Sales while Rouge walked away with the Best Female Award. Gemini Major was awarded Producer of the Year and YoungstaCPT got a standing ovation after he was announced as Lyricist of the Year.

Nyovest’s big rival, AKA, won the Best Collabo Award alongside Anatii for the song ‘10 Fingers’
