East African Bashment Crew to reunite at a Kampala concert
Kampala's most anticipated party of the year is slated for Sunday 20 December at the Kololo airstrip in Uganda. Dubbed Pop Bottles Concert, the event will see the East African Bashment Crew reunite to entertain fans. Made of Wyre, Nazizi from Kenya and Uganda’s Bebe Cool, the crew has been in existence since 2005 and is well known for hits like ‘Fire Anthem’ and ‘Kube’.
Besides the East African Bashment Crew Kenyan artist Nameless, Uganda’s Sheebah Karungi, and Irene Ntale are also lined up to perform while a host of Ugandan deejays are set to play mixes of some of the best songs. The East African Bashment Crew will quash rumours that had abounded of the group's break up.
In the early 2000’s the group was active and even went ahead to win awards for their hits and received multiple nominations at the 2005 Kora Awards, Kisima Music Awards (2006) and MTV Africa Music Awards (2008). But for a while now the group has been so silent. However in an exclusive interview with online media outlet Chano8 Bebe Cool explained that the group had never split.
“The truth is we have never been a group or crew as reported in the media. We are individuals working together. Nazizi and Wyre worked together as ‘Necessary Noise’ for a while before they focused on their solo careers. So when all the three of us get together on a project, we are East African Bashment crew”, Bebe explained.
The last time the trio performed together as a group was in 2011 during Bebe Cool’s Minzani album launch. The three have however been pursuing successful solo careers. The reunion will bring back golden days they shared.
