First Afropolitan Vibes in 2019 postponed
The popular concert series Afropolitan Vibes will not take place this month.
The organisers made the announcement on the event's social media channels ahead of its first 2019 show, which was to take place at the end of this month at Muri Okunola Park in Lagos, in commemoration of its sixth anniversary.
At the last edition, which took place on 21 December, the concert and its audience welcomed three guests. Reminisce, Moelogo and Falana performed to the delight of guests.
Before the trio, a different set of artists, Omawumi, Johnny Drille and Bright Chimezie, had taken the stage in September. That run of entertainers at the quarterly event has been cut by extenuating circumstances, which includes the house band working on a new album, following its debut studio work Agberos International.
"It’s Afropolitan Vibes month, or rather it would be if we were staging our sixth-anniversary edition and the third edition of the ever-growing Afropolitan Vibes Festival," reads a note posted online by the organisers.
"We have good reason: we are in the process of readjusting the format and we’ve been having talks with lots of international and domestic partners and we are working to agree to terms. Till then, we thought we would rest this edition until we can announce concrete plans.
"In addition, Ade Bantu and the rest of the 13-piece BANTU collective are in the middle of recording their new album. Afropolitan Vibes co-producer Abby [Ogunsanya] has been travelling a lot, in search of what, we don’t really know. Expect news soon. We will celebrate our 6th anniversary in some way this month, so do watch out for news and other updates."
