Ghanaian hitmaker Kontihene returns with 'Sankofa'
Ghanaian hiplife artist Kontihene (real name Immanuel Nana Appiah Boateng) has released a new album. Titled Sankofa, the album is the seventh of the artist’s career.
In 2001, Kontihene (also known as Ohene) caused a splash in the Ghanaian music scene with the release of Nyankonton, his debut album for which he was rewarded with widespread airplay and considerable acclaim and awards. The album housed the hit single ‘Aketesea’.
That song won the artist the highly coveted Song of the Year award at the Ghana Music Awards of 2003. It was the first time a debut artist would win the award in the history of the yearly award show. Kontihene also won the New Artist of the Year award.
Two years later he released Nsoroma, his sophomore. His other albums, Awia and Esum were released in quick succession, culminating in the gospel album All Star Gospel Medley in 2007. Last year Kontihene scored a hit with the song ‘Dedeede’ for which he released a video of the remix with rapper Ponobiom. Originally featuring Yaa Pono , the song is included in the 8-track Sankofa. ‘Pension Plan’, 'Juju', ‘Clap For Me’ and ‘Gye Nyame’ are some of the other songs on the project.
Sankofa is available on iTunes here.
