Ghana Music Awards to go virtual this August
The 21st edition of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) will be held virtually via local broadcaster TV3 and DStv on 28 and 29 August.
The event will also be streamed on VGMAs official Facebook page and Charterhouse Live’s YouTube channel. DStv is yet to announce the channel, which will be used to broadcast the event.
Event organisers, CharterHouse said voting is still open in all categories and fans can vote by sending an SMS to the following code 1767 on the Vodafone network only.
“There will be no public attendance and the event will be produced solely for broadcast on TV and digital platforms,” a statement reads. “It will feature some of the best performances from chart topping artists”.
The VGMA, which are traditionally held in April or May, will be preceded by other events such as the VGMA21 CountDown Series, which plays on TV3 every Sunday at 6pm GMT. The weekly series will be followed by the pre-produced 7th edition of VGMA Unsung, a category that highlights promising new voices.
This year’s nominees were selected from more than 5 000 submissions and include Imrana, Gyakie, Teflon Flexx, Kofi Jamar, Abochi and Sherry Boss. Meanwhile, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale are not eligible for an award this year following a scuffle at last year’s event, which saw the pair handed indefinite bans.
