Gospel Emonti fest to feature top SA acts
South African gospel giants Benjamin Dube, Lebo Sekgobela and Dr Tumi will share the stage at Gospel Emonti music at Buffalo City Stadium, in East London, on 23 December.
The event, which is in its third edition, will also feature gospel acts Betusile, Dumi Mkokstad and Veliswa Skeyi.
“This is one of the most exciting events we are putting together. We are thrilled to be bringing this festival to East London,” festival producer Thiwe Mbola said. “December is a busy time with a lot going on, we wanted to bring a festival that will revive and encourage people.
“We are bringing some of the finest gospel artists and we have no doubt that the festival will be a success. We encourage everyone in and around East London, the greater Eastern Cape region to come and have fun with us.”
Sekgobela told Music In Africa that she was happy to be a part of the festival. “This will be my time at the festival. I am bringing my band and I am excited about that. People can expect songs from my previous and new albums.”
With a career of nearly three decades, Benjamin Dube earned success through albums such as In His Presence, Worship In His Presence, You Blessed Me Still and Feel Like Going On. His name has been listed at notable local festivals like MACUFE and Phalaphala FM Royal Heritage Festival.
Dube has won a few of accolades at the South African Music Awards. Last year he walked away with three awards at the SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards. His music has spread to the US, Sweden, the Netherlands, France, Australia, Japan and the UK.
Dr Tumi launched his career in 2007. He became famous with the Heart of a King album which landed him the Best R&B Gospel Music Award at the SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards in 2012. His 2017 album The Gathering of Worshippers was certified gold within a week. Last year, Dr Tumi became the first local gospel star to fill up the 20 000-seater Ticketpro Dome.
Betusile launched his career as a keyboardist and backing vocalist for notable gospel ensemble Lusanda Spiritual Group. He made his name in the gospel industry with songs like ‘Nyange Lemihla’ and ‘Zundithwale’.
Produced by Zungula Holdings, the Gospel Emonti festival will be hosted by Umhlobo Wenene FM DJs Mama Ka Ma-Asi and Amaza Ntshanga.
