Idols SA crowns winner
Idols SA crowned Cape Town-based Paxton Fielies as the winner of the competition's 2017 edition at Carnival City in Johannesburg yesterday. Fielies won the competition after a fierce battle with Mthokozisi Sibeko from KwaZulu-Natal province.
The 17-year-old Fielies, who made history by becoming the youngest contestant to win Idols, walked away with a brand new car, R1.1m ($78 300) in cash, a R100 000 fashion voucher, R78 000 worth of musical instruments and a recording deal with Gallo Record Company.
Asked what she will do next, Fielies said: "I will definitely complete my studies, whether it be through correspondence, online or home schooling," she said. "I don't think I will be able to go to school with all the gigs or shows happening. For me, this is very important. I will need to manage my time to finish my studies. I want to focus on my music too.”
The grand finale featured performances from Kwesta, Chiano Sky, Boom Shaka, TKZee, Destruction Boyz and Donald as well as Idols judge Somizi Mhlongo. The Idols top 10 also took to the stage to perform ‘FourFiveSeconds’ by Rihanna‚ Kanye West and Paul McCartney.
Preparations for the 14th season have already begun and auditions will take place in January 2018.
