Idols SA: Zama and Mr Music earn final spots

Millions of votes were cast to pick the finalists who will vie for R1m ($65 000). The winner will also win a contract with Kalawa Jazmee Records, Samsung products to the value of R150 000 and a new Toyota Starlet 1.4 XR.

Brandon was voted out of the competition leaving Zama and Mr Music in the final race. Before the voting results were announced, the top three performed their singles. Mr Music and Zama sang Afropop singles ‘Ngikhethe Kahle’ and ‘Ndizobizwa’, respectively. Brandon entertained fans with a hip hop track titled ‘Uhambe’.

Mr Music returned to sing his first audition song ‘Ngam’thanda Umuntu’ by Linda. Randall remarked how different the first attempt sounded to this performance, yet he remained at the centre of it all.

Unathi said South Africans were impressed by Mr Music because he had done well throughout the show. Somizi also loved the performance and emphasised that Mr Music would make an amazing finalist. Mr Music also performed Sun-EL Musician and Ami Faku’s ‘Into Ingawe’, which had Somizi giving him his ultimate nod.

“You look like the Afropop prince,” he said, while Randall and Unathi remarked that his endearing qualities, singing ability and desire to win would make fans vote for him.

Zama performed Mariah Carey’s ‘Without You’ and Unathi said: “We fell in love with you the moment we met you,” while Somizi felt sad the song had ended. “I can’t get enough of your voice.”

Randall took the opportunity to offer a word of advice: “Your singing is very good but you need to imbue that performance with emotion and absolutely let go.”

Zama also performed ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’ by Jennifer Hudson and Somizi said: “When you sleep tonight, you can do so knowing that whatever happens, you did it all. You killed it. You have given it your all – that was amazing. You deserve a standing ovation.”
