Jamaica’s Morgan Heritage to thrill Zimbabwe
The renowned reggae outfit Morgan Heritage is coming to Harare, Zimbabwe.
The Jamaican group is expected to perform on Saturday 14 October at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC). At the event, which is organised by 2 Kings Entertainment, Morgan Heritage will be joined by local artists Oliver Mtukudzi and Winky D.
Other performers on the night include Freeman, DJ Gary B and Templeman.
This would be the first time Morgan Heritage will stage a performance in Zimbabwe. The ‘Don't Haffi Dread’ hit makers were to perform in Harare on 31 December last year but the show was cancelled.
Public relations officer Samuel Mukondo told a local weekly that the group was finally coming.
"I can safely say we did our homework and we planned with the Morgan Heritage management,” PR man Samuel Mukondo said in an interview with a local weekly, “that created a mutual understanding as well as a working relationship and they are excited to come to Zimbabwe.”
He added: “We are the first country to confirm on their African tour and as 2 Kings, we deliver to our promise and we listen to our fans' requests.”
Formed in 1995 by five children of reggae artist Denroy Morgan, Morgan Heritage joins a list of Jamaican and international artists who have performed in Zimbabwe: Capleton, Sizzla, Christopher Martin, Busy Signal and others.
Morgan Heritage comprises Denroy Morgan, aka Peetah, Una, Roy aka Gramps, Nakhamyah aka Lukes and Memmalatel aka Mr Mojo. They made their first appearance at Reggae Sunsplash in Jamaica. They were later signed by MCA in 1994, releasing their debut album Miracles same year. The group has released well received albums Protect Us Jah, One Calling, Don’t Haffi Dread, More Teachings, Three in One, Full Circle and Mission In Progress among others.
Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi and Winky D, who are still basking in the success of their hit single ‘Panorwadza Moyo’, are expected to draw more fans to the concert.
Before the Morgan Heritage concert, Tuku will launch his new album Ehe! Kani Nhai Yahwe on 22 September at Pakare Paye Art Centre in Norton, Zimbabwe.
Tickets to the Harare International Conference concert are sold for $10 regular entry and $20 for VIP and can be purchased via Webtickets.
