Kenya: Ndegz drops debut EP Mr. Bull
Kenyan Afropop singer, songwriter and producer Ndegz has released his debut EP titled Mr. Bull.
The release, which is available for streaming and download here, marks a key moment in Ndegz’s music career as this is his first extended body of work that truly represents his music style, artistry and production skills.
The seven-track EP that cuts across R&B, pop and hip hop genres delivers an authentic, emotional, personal and relatable listening experience.
The EP’s title is a direct translation of the artist’s childhood nickname, Ndegz, a shortened form of his name Ndegwa, which means the bull in his native Kikuyu language.
Expressing his excitement about the release of the project that took years to craft, Ndegz said: “It’s been a long time coming! I’m ecstatic to share my sound with the world and my fans. In three words, this EP is soulful, vulnerable and addictive.
“It’s been a true labour of love. Long nights, many changes, but generally an all-round incredible journey working with some of the most brilliant creatives.”
At the same time, Ndegz has released the music video for the single ‘Your Love Is Like’ featuring Kenyan rapper Prezzo. The track blends Ndegz's smooth vocals and Prezzo’s rap flow. The video was directed by Ivan Odie and produced by Joe Mahinda.
Other tracks on the EP include the dancehall-fused ‘1 Time’ with Kidkay (formerly Kid Kora), a song about longing to settle down with a desired lover. It pays homage to the long-term Kenyan celebrity couple, Nameless and Wahu. Kidkay joins Ndegz again on ‘Loving You’, a deep, evocative serenade, and ‘Fire Blue’ that captures the essence of vulnerable love. Ndegz keeps up a soulful momentum on the EP with the heartfelt ballad ‘Need You’, before closing off with ‘Boss’, a boastful anthem and banger.
From his musical debut on the smash single ‘Skamaress’ in 2011 to his recent appointment as the Johnnie Walker ambassador in Kenya, Ndegz has continued to grow his brand both on and off-stage, all the while carving out a niche for himself in the Kenyan music scene. He is also the co-founder and creative director of the Urejea Project, an initiative focused on bringing corporates to the forefront of the upcycling movement.
