Kunle Ayo drops Inner Reflection album
Nigerian jazz musician Kunle Ayo has released a 12-track album titled Inner Reflection.
The album is available for download and streaming on all major digital platforms. Featured artists on the album include South African pianist Nduduzo Makhathini on ‘Adara (It Will Be Ok)’ and Nigerian saxophonist OluJazz on ‘No Compare’.
“Nduduzo has been a dear friend and brother having worked with him on several projects, one of which was his wife Omagugu’s album, so he was very open to the idea of working together,” Ayo, who is based in South Africa, said.
“We also did a concept gig at the then Orbit jazz club titled Akojopo, which means ‘coming together’. It celebrated popular African artists from all of Africa, so Nduduzo and I had a connection from then, even into the studio.”
Inner Reflection was recorded in 2018 but its release was delayed due to the death of Ayo’s mother in 2019.
“Life has thrown many challenges my way and I believe that with divine intervention it will be okay,” he said. “‘Make We Groove’ is a call to let go of life’s challenges and enjoy this part of heaven, as problems will always be there, so put them aside and just groove. ‘Oro Owo (Money Matter)’ is a story of two friends who did business together, but because of greed, one killed the other. So the question is, why do we allow money to rule us so much?”
