Leading African industry experts to speak at WOMEX 2022 in Portugal
Leading African industry experts including David Alexander (South Africa), Dudu Sarr (Senegal), Rabby Jones (Ghana) and Melody Zambuko (Zimbabwe) will speak at this year’s Worldwide Music Expo (WOMEX) slated for 19-23 October in Lisbon, Portugal.
WOMEX is widely regarded among the most important meetings in the global music scene, bringing together a broad array of professionals and other stakeholders.
This year’s event will see 103 speakers from 47 countries gather in Portugal’s capital for 19 conference segments, nine networking and mentoring sessions and three associated presentations. Other activities include a trade fair, showcase festivals, film screenings and an awards ceremony.
Other African speakers are Olfa Arfaoui (Tunisia), Ouafa Belgacem (Tunisia), Buruntuma (Guinea-Bissau/Portugal), Pilani Bubu (South Africa), Brad Holmes (South Africa), Sean Jacobs (South Africa/US), Khadija El Bennaoui (Morocco/UAE), Soumaya Laghiti (Morocco), Marcus Gora (Zimbabwe), Nick Moyo (Zimbabwe) and Herman Kabubi (Uganda).
They will serve as conference moderators, speakers, coordinators or mentors, sharing their knowledge on global music markets while offering attendees tailor-made career advice. Specifically, they will touch on topics like celebrating African creativity, gender diversity and women in music, resource mobilisation and sustainability, art and artists at risk, indigenous music, global music royalty collections, NFTs, crypto and blockchain, touring strategies for artists, and much more.
Africa will also be represented by an impressive line-up of artists such as Ghana’s Fra!, Nigeria’s Aunty Rayzor and Mali’s DJ Diaki. Others are Al Bilali Soudan (Mali), Aywa (Morocco/France), Djazia Satour (Algeria/France), Djely Tapa (Mali/Canada), Etuk Ubong & The Etuk Philosophy (Nigeria), Pilani Bubu (South Africa), The Dizzy Brains (Madagascar), AfrotroniX (Chad/Canada), Karyna Gomes (Guinea-Bissau/Portugal), and Prétu and Tito Paris (Cabo Verde/Portugal).
