The Afro-house track is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms. It is a remix of Gaz Mawete’s song ‘Paulina’, which was released three years ago.
“I discovered the track through HVMZA back in 2019 when he released his own version of the song called ‘Na Bosana’,” El Mukuka told Music In Africa. “It's tremendously catchy, Afrocentric and groovy, and I had played it in on my DJ sets that summer. Fast forward to early 2021, as I was stuck in the second COVID-19 lockdown here in Zambia, I decided to interpret the song in my own way and give it a little twist.”
El Mukuka, who is of Greek and Zambian descent, said he wanted to focus on making ‘Bosana’ more emotive. “I think it actually ended up sounding quite melancholic in the end, to be honest. HVMZA did the vocal sampling and arrangement and I did the composition and production. I have great respect for Gaz Mawete and HVMZA. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They come from very diverse backgrounds and the synergy was magical.”
El Mukuka’s other collaborations include offerings with artists like Marocco (Zambia), Kayla Jacobs (US) and Shaun Bate (Germany).
“Collaborations are tremendously important and always have been,” El Mukuka said. “They enable artists to cross-pollinate in terms of cultural exchanges, new sounds and techniques and they of course help artists grow and diversify their fanbases. As a fusion dance music artist, I thrive on collaborations because they help me grow and expand my musical universe. I also believe that certain musical ideas can only be fully expressed with the right collaborators.”
HVMZA said: “‘Bosana’ is such a feel-good summer track that instantly makes me feel like I am at a beach club sipping on a cocktail while dancing in the sunset.”
El Mukuka is ranked among the top DJs and producers in Zambia. The 28-year-old musician is best known for fusing African music with European deep and melodic house. He has performed at some of the biggest festivals in sub-Saharan Africa alongside acts like Black Coffee, Mi Casa, Goldfish and DJ Maphorisa.
