Listen to Maroon 5’s One Light featuring Zim’s Bantu
US pop band Maroon 5 has featured Los Angeles-based Zimbabwean artist Bantu on a new song called ‘One Light’.
‘One Light’ is the seventh song off the group’s new album Jordi. The song’s lyric video was animated by Celina Bhandari, Carolyn Knapp and Cooper Davis. Other songs off the 14-track album include ‘Beautiful Mistakes’, ‘Lost’, ‘Echo’, ‘Lovesick’ and ‘Remedy’. The album is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms.
“Sheesh, Maroon 5 ‘One Light’ ft. Bantu out June 11,” Bantu wrote on Twitter last week. “Somebody tell my Mama we made it. Can’t wait for you all to hear this one.”
Jordi is a tribute project whose title was inspired by the multi-platinum band’s late manager, Jordan Feldstein, who passed on in 2017. Other featured artists on the album include Megan Thee Stallion, Blackbear, Stevie Nicks, H.E.R and Jason Derulo, among others.
Born Tinashe Sibanda, Bantu is a Grammy-nominated artist who has produced and written for top artists such as Jason Derulo, Rita Ora, ASAP Rocky, Camila Cabello, Pitbull and Chris Brown. He debuted in 2016 with the single ‘Holiday’, an up-tempo love song tht fuses dynamic club and dance-pop with African rhythms.
His production style is inspired by the late Oliver Mtukudzi as well as US hitmakers Missy Elliott and Pharrell Williams.
“I want to show that there is so much culture and music that Zimbabwe has to offer the world,” he was quoted as saying by Apple Music.
