Magnificent Joe releases ‘Africa’
Gambian reggae dancehall singer Magnificent Joe has released the eagerly awaited pan-African song ‘Africa’. The song features renowned Malian producer and singer Charles, who plays live guitar and receives production credit.
With the news of the new song unveiled to the fans prior to its October 10 release date, it attracted excitement among music fanatics in anticipation of what they believed to be an international hit when released.
Magnificent Joe said this is a new dimension of his music and is borne out of a “vivid love and activism for a united Africa free from all forms of violence and crimes,” adding that, “as a musician, it is my social responsibility to advocate for peace and be a whistleblower where necessary.” He expressed delight for having such a prominent international musician from Mali as Charles, and that this solidifies the lyrics in the song as it carries both English and French languages for a wider audience.
For his part, Charles, who is married to a Gambian, said doing such a project with a talented Gambian artist like Magnificent Joe means a lot to him as he plans to explore the music in The Gambia.
He said plans are laid for the active promotion of the song in Mali and other French-speaking countries in the sub-region and the world.
He commended managing agency The Spotlight’s CEO, Saikou Suwareh Jabai, for his foresight in initiating and facilitating the successful production of such an international project.
Ebrima Darboe (alias Frings) of The Spotlight, said the song is rich and can represent the continent on any platform. He asserted that, with a lot of negative things happening in Africa, artists on The Spotlight have deemed it befitting to play their part in reminding fellow Africans about the divine commandment for humanity.
“More promotional songs will hit the music industry soon,” Frings said. “With The Spotlight and Magnificent Joe, quality and educating music are assured at all times.”
