Mozambique’s Laylizzy’s ‘Hello’ music video featuring AKA is out
Mozambican hip-hop sensation Laylizzy released his much-awaited music video for his latest single ‘Hello’ on Friday 16 September.
Featuring South Africa’s award winning hip-hop star AKA, the hit tune premiered on MTV Base, TV Miramar in Mozambique, as well as on South Africa’s e.tv, where it topped the station’s weekly Top 5 countdown.
The rapper, whose real name is Edson Abel Jeremias Tchamo, shared the news on Facebook, posting a snippet of the music video. He wrote, “The official video for ‘Hello’ The Money Is Calling; #HelloLaylizzy pick up the phone.”
‘Hello’ was released in April. A week later, the song was number one on the iTunes’ All Genres Chart in Mozambique. It was also second on the iTunes hip-hop chart in South Africa.
The single was playlist-ed on radio charts in South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Nigeria. This ultimately led Laylizzy to become the first Mozambican artist to get verified on Instagram and on Facebook a day after the single’s release.
Laylizzy and AKA join an increasing list of artists from different countries who have worked together on singles and videos. This week, Zimbabwean artist Cindy Munyavi and Tanzania’s Linah Sanga announced that they are set to collaborate on a new single. The single will be released before year-end together with a video. Last month, Zimbabwe’s Jah Prayzah collaborated with Tanzanian star, Diamond Platnumz.
Signed to Pan African label, Geobek Records, Laylizzy is a recording artist, songwriter and performer who raps in Portuguese and English. He won an award for Best Hip Hop Song at the 2015 Mozambique Music Awards; in the same year, he won the Newcomers Delight Section in hip-hop magazine HYPE.
