Music Society of Nigeria to host second Legends musical
The cast and crew of Legends: Kings and Kingdoms are preparing to stage another edition of the musical from 22 to 26 December in Lagos, Nigeria.
- Yinka Davies has urged people to see MUSON's Legends: Kings and Kingdoms musical.
The event will take place at the Shell Hall, MUSON Center.
According to a statement from the organisers, the inaugural showing of Legends "received an avalanche of accolades for its extraordinary skills and authenticity of ideas. Regardless, the outpour of praises has not given room for complacency as the producers are gearing up to take the show a notch higher this time around."
Recently, the producers of the show, Gbenga Yusuf and Ayo Ajayi, CEOs of Seeing Through the Arts and Declassical Arts & Entertainment Company respectively, said the show's return was due to a request from the audience.
“By popular demand, Legends will be back on stage in December,” reads a joint statement, which adds that the musical is "is an unrivaled piece in terms of entertainment value. The wonderful scripting, the phenomenal actors, dancers and musicians and the imaginative directorial approach, combine to make this show a must-see for every household. Legends is a family event that has no age restrictions. Also, it is not elitist as prices are highly affordable."
The story follows five African heroes, Sango (played by Segun Adefila), Nana Yaa Asantewaa (Mojisola Kadiri), Neferneferuaten Nefertiti (Edem Attai), Shaka Zulu (Kelvin Mary) and Queen Amina of Zazzau (Uche Elumelu). Drawn from different African countries, the group is summoned by a priestess (Oluchi Odii) who lives in the future and tasked with saving Modaland from a character called The Shadow (Floyd Igbo).
Yinka Davies also stars in the Legends. The singer urged Nigerians to “come out en masse” to see the show while lauding the producers in their willingness to collaborate with sponsors and supporters for another edition of the event.
The actress Oluchi Odii, a contestant on MTN Project Fame in 2015, the musical is a boon to her career. She thanked the producers of legends for “making it easy” for her to inhabit her role.
“The fact that the play fuses both the ancient and modern worlds together is an interesting dynamic,” Igbo said. “I start off as a very charming, modern young man who is pushing love and sometimes becomes the villain of the story. It is a roller coaster ride for me and I find that really exciting.”
Tickets for the musical are available here.
