Namibian radio station now on DStv and GOtv
Africa’s leading video entertainment and internet company MultiChoice has added a Namibian Christian community radio station, Channel 7 on its DStv channel 825 and GOtv channel 303 audio bouquets.
The audio channel was launched in Windhoek, Namibia on Monday 1 August 2016 following an announcement by the mass media company late July this year. The launch will allow Channel 7 fans to access the radio’s content anywhere in Africa where DStv is available.
Channel 7 is an online music radio station with a great mix of jazz, blues, folk, world and classical music. It was the first private radio station in Namibia when it began broadcasting on 3 December 1993.
In a move that is bent on promoting local content, general manager of MultiChoice Namibia, Roger Gertze, told a local publication New Era that: “One of our core objectives is to ensure that our service enhances the experience of our subscribers by bringing them content that they can connect with.”
He continued: “We are, therefore, delighted to have a proudly Namibian radio station on our bouquet and excited that local content will be broadcast beyond our borders. The purpose of Channel 7 is to broadcast the whole spectrum of Biblical lifestyle, with hourly news bulletins and actuality."
Channel 7 is made up of 50% Christian and 50% secular music broadcasted in Afrikaans, English, German and Oshiwambo languages. The radio’s partnership with MultiChoice will see its content reaching an increased number of households in Namibia and abroad.
This is not the first time MultiChoice has launched African radio channels on its packages. On 1 October, the company added a Tanzanian tv channel called Maisha Magic Bongo on its video home network. The tv channel is available on DStv (channel 160) and is exclusively dedicated to the Tanzanian music industry.
