Nigeria: Listen to new Fireboy DML album Adedamola
Nigerian Afrobeats singer Fireboy DML has released his fourth album Adedamola, which is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms.
The 14-track follows Playboy (2022), Apollo (2020) and Laughter, Tears, and Goosebumps (2019). Blending Afrobeats, R&B, and soul, the effort offers a personal exploration of his journey, growth, and identity.
Thematically, Adedamola addresses love, self-discovery, and the challenges of fame, featuring collaborations with fellow Nigerian acts Seun Kuti, Lagbaja, Lojay and Spinall, as well as US jazz star Jon Batiste.
“The whole idea for the album started around 2023, because it was a crazy year for me on all fronts,” Fireboy DML said. “I learned a lot. I lost friends and had a crazy ride. I had a lot of experiences that reminded me that I’m a full-grown adult.
“I feel like this album is me reconnecting with my roots on a more personal level because it has me reaching to my true self. After doing everything and achieving what you want as a man, you realise that there are way more important things that you should focus on, and that’s basically what this project is about.”
According to a poll published by Billboard on 30 August, music fans voted Adedamola as their favourite new music release of the past week. In the poll, Fireboy DML’s new album received more than 62% of the vote, trouncing new releases from Victoria Monét and Usher, A$AP Rocky, Noah Kahan, Big Sean and more.
Born Adedamola Adefolahan, Fireboy DML condensed the “Damola” part of his first name to “DML” for his stage name.
Signed to YBNL Nation / EMPIRE, Fireboy DML currently boasts over 1 billion streams across all credits and is best known for songs like ‘Jealous’, ‘Bandana’, ‘Yawa’, and the Ed Sheeran-assisted ‘Peru’, which last year received the Recording Industry Association of America Platinum certification after selling 1 million copies.
