- The National School of the Arts offers intensive training in music, dance, drama, and visual art, integrated with a strong academic curriculum.
As a designated School of Specialisation, the NSA offers intensive training in music, dance, drama, and visual art, integrated with a strong academic curriculum. The school follows the national Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS), preparing learners for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination and ensuring they meet both artistic and academic benchmarks for tertiary study and career readiness.
With a legacy spanning over five decades, NSA has established itself as a launchpad for South Africa’s creative talent. The school fosters an environment where artistic ability and academic achievement are equally prioritised. This commitment to excellence was evident in the 2024 academic results, where NSA achieved a 99% Matric pass rate. Based on the number of bachelor’s passes and distinctions awarded, the school was named the top-performing public school in its district.
At the 2024 Gauteng Provincial Arts Awards, NSA learners received notable accolades. Jodé Golding and Creagan Martins shared the Top Dance Learner Award, each scoring 100% for their Matric Dance Practical. Music learner Bienvenu Muyombo also achieved 100% for his practical examination and secured an overall music mark of 95%, earning him third place in the province. In recognition of its achievements, NSA was also named the Top Dance School of Specialisation in Gauteng.
Auditions are open to prospective learners currently in Grades 7 to 10, who wish to enter Grades 8 to 11 in 2026. Admission to the school is granted by audition only, and applicants must audition in one of the four offered disciplines: music, visual art, dance and drama.
