Nigeria’s Wavy The Creator named Apple Music Up Next artist
Apple Music this week announced Nigeria’s Wavy The Creator as its latest Up Next artist.
Up Next is the streaming platform’s global artist development programme geared towards identifying and showcasing rising talent.
A musician, photographer, fashion designer and filmmaker, Wavy The Creator joins the likes of Rema, Burna Boy, Mr Eazi, Ajebo Hustlers and Jaido P on Apple Music’s growing list of Up Next artists from Nigeria. The vast roster of past talent includes Stefflon Don, Bad Bunny, Koffee and Megan Thee Stallion, among many others.
“Honoured is an understatement,” she said. “Being selected for Apple Music’s Up Next Nigeria feels like everything I’ve put into the universe is finally actualising. Everything I’ve fought and worked for looks more attainable than ever.”
As the latest Up Next act spotlighted in Nigeria, Wavy The Creator will be featured on Apple Music’s Up Next playlist. The curated playlist features a dynamic class of new and emerging artists hand-picked by Apple Music editors from around the world. The playlist is genre-agnostic and represents a line-up of artists the global editors are passionate about and eager to expose to a larger audience.
Wavy The Creator started out in showbiz as rapper Olamide’s official photographer, and was noticed internationally with her breakout single ‘H.I.G.H’ in 2017. The musician is also behind the P.S. Thank You for Waiting EP. Her Apple Up Next inclusion comes after fellow Nigerian singer Tems was also added to the programme last month.
