Nutty O added to Zim’s Shoko Festival line-up
Zimbabwean dancehall artist Nutty O has been added among the headlining acts that will perform at the 2019 Shoko Festival in Harare and Chitungwiza from 27 and 29 September.
Nutty O joins previously announced artists Ti Gonzi, Bazooker, Noble Styles, Vimbai Zimuto and Kikky Badass as well as rappers Wicked Jono (Botswana) and Simba Sitoi (Mozambique). The comedy section will feature Celeste Ntuli (South Africa) while Zambia’s Ludo will entertain fans through poetry.
“We’re happy that Nutty O is joining the lineup and bringing his infectious live show to the Shoko stage,” Shoko Festival director Comrade Fatso said. “This year Shoko has a lot of fresh new programming happening. This includes our Creative South initiative that brings in acts from Mozambique, Botswana and Zambia, our Mash Ups that are going to showcase some brand-new music collaborations, the first ever Women Create Worlds Summit as well as the Shoko Comedy Night which is going to present a never-seen-before comedy show.”
The organisers said: “Peace In The Hood, which will be hosted by Chitungwiza native Dhadza D, will be headlined by popular ZimDancehall acts Bazooker, and Nutty O. As part of its Mash Ups programming Shoko Festival has also curated some brand-new unexpected collaborations for the event, putting together Vimbai Zimuto with Kikky Badass while rapper Noble Styles will join forces with the Air Force Band in a collaboration that promises fireworks.”
Celeste Ntuli will headline the Shoko Comedy Night at Reps Theatre on 28 September. The comedy night will run under the theme Return Of The Zim Dollar and will also feature local comedians Doc Vikela, Q Dube, King Kandoro, CKanyiso Dat Guy, Magi from Bustop TV, Kevin Hansen, Louis The Prince of Comedy and ProBeats.
Shoko Festival will also host the eighth edition of the annual digital media and journalism called Hub Unconference at Harare City Library from 27 to 28 September. The Hub will bring together artists, students, journalists, developers and politicians to explore emerging trends in social media, journalism and civic tech. Special guests include Zimbabwean-born, award-winning journalist and former CNN anchor Robyn Kriel, award winning Hollywood lighting director Christian Epps and Deutsche Welle journalist Faten Jebai from Lebanon. Attendees can also take part in a drone party as well as attend workshops on mobile journalism, music business and the first edition of the Women Create Worlds Summit.
The 2019 edition of Shoko Festival will run under the theme Good Vibes Only to address xenophobia and promote unity with a diverse line-up.
