Open call: National Arts Council advisory panel members
The National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) is inviting all qualified and interested individuals to serve as members of the NAC Advisory Panel for a three-year term, starting from 1 November 2024 to 31 October 2027.
Members are required to possess knowledge and expertise in the fields of music, craft, dance, literature, multidiscipline, theatre, visual arts and arts education.
Requirements:
- Members should have achieved distinction or possess specialised knowledge and expertise in the specified fields, along with strategic knowledge of the arts.
- International experience and expertise in indigenous art forms will be considered advantageous.
- Nominated individuals must be residents/citizens of South Africa and represent all provinces.
Bursary panel:
- Nominees for the bursaries panel should hold a minimum of a master’s degree in the field of the arts.
Responsibilities:
- Members will advise the Council on the merits of funding applications and on matters related to their respective fields.
- They will assess applications, make recommendations, and advise on policy matters relating to the arts.
Nomination process:
- Any member of the public may nominate candidates.
- Nominations must include a detailed motivation for the nominee, their curriculum vitae, certified ID and a letter of acceptance from the nominee.
- The public is encouraged to nominate differently-abled people.
Conflict of interest and confidentiality:
- Members must disclose any involvement or close association with applicants during the review process, which will be recorded during adjudication meetings.
- Family and close associations with advisory panel members will be ineligible for NAC funding.
- Panel members are required to sign annual conflict of interest declarations and adhere to data protection regulations, including the POPI Act, maintaining confidentiality during their tenure.
Note: Advisory panel members and their associated organisations are ineligible for grants from the Council during their tenure. As NAC is in the process of amalgamation with the National Film and Video Foundation, the appointment of advisory panel members is subject to this amalgamation, which may affect their tenure.
