Open call: Yaga Yaga Talent Show 2023 in Ghana
Applications are currently ongoing for the Yaga Yaga Talent Show 2023 which aims to showcase cultural excellence in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
The initiative was created last year by award-winning Ghanaian artist Wiyaala, a native of Funsi in the Upper West Region, to give opportunities to cultural performers in the area.
This year’s edition, presented by Upper West PR TV, promises a variety of prizes, including GH₵ 5 000 (about $420) in cash. Organisers say the competition will also offer participants valuable experience that can be a stepping stone for those aspiring to participate in national talent shows in Ghana’s capital Accra and beyond.
Who can apply
Yaga Yaga 2023 is open to all cultural performers in the Upper West Region. The show welcomes individuals with diverse artistic disciplines, including singers, musicians, dancers, rappers, poets, comedians and more.
Application process
To apply, interested participants may pick up a form available at all radio stations in the Upper West Region of Ghana. The deadline for submissions is 30 November.
Important dates:
- Auditions: 2 December at First and Last Gardens, Wa.
- Finals: December 30, 2023.
“When I was growing up, there were few opportunities for talents in my community to showcase their art,” Wiyaala, a multiple winner at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards and All Africa Music Awards, said. “Now, the team at Upper West PR TV and I are giving local talent that opportunity. This year’s show now includes not only bigger cash prizes but also opportunities for all artistic disciplines and useful experience for those artists who may wish to go on to national talent shows in Accra or beyond”
