SA: BASA appoints Msimeki Nkatingi as non-executive director 

The BASA board comprises 12 non-executive directors and one executive director, all of whom contribute to the overall success, governance and compliance of the organisation.

The current board is made up of outgoing chairperson Charmaine Soobramoney, CEO Ashraf Johaardien, Devi Sankaree Govender, Hilton Lawler, Kathy Berman, Khanyi Mamba, Kojo Baffoe, Makgati Molebatsi, Mirna Wessels, Msimeki Nkatingi, Yacoob Abba Omar, Unathi Malunga and Zingisa Motloba.

“My goal is to provide to as many young people as possible the skill sets that will help them put food on the table,” the 30-year-old Nkatingi said. “I believe that both formal and informal education are critical to alleviating poverty in our current society.”

Nkatingi hopes to use his knowledge in the creative industry to build relationships designed to champion BASA’s mission of driving business investment into the creative sector and capacitating its stakeholders through programmes and research.

Nkatingi is the founder and managing director of a branding and marketing agency MIN Creative Co. He graduated with a bachelor of commerce in economics and information systems from the University of the Western Cape. He went on to study multimedia design and production at CityVarsity in Johannesburg and founded his agency while completing his studies. He is currently pursuing a honours degree in commerce with Regent Business School in Durban.

BASA was founded in 1997 as a joint initiative between the South African government and the private sector, as part of a strategy to secure greater involvement in the arts and from businesses operating in the country. Established as a Section 21 company, BASA is constituted in terms of the Companies Act and is registered as a public benefit organisation.
