SA musicians, insurance company partner on My Body remake
South African company 1st for Women Insurance has partnered with local musicians on a remake of the song ‘My Body’.
The artists featured on the track are soul musician Lira, Juliet Harding of electronic trio Goodluck, rapper Gigi Lamayne and Mariechan of all-girl group Jamali. The song is available for streaming and downloading here(link is external).
‘My Body’ aims to raise funds to fight women abuse in South Africa. All the money raised from downloads will be donated to the 1st for Women Foundation and its ongoing fight to end women abuse.
“I think one of the most important tools I have is my voice and I am thrilled to be able to lend my voice to this cause,” Lira said. “We all have a responsibility to do something about women abuse and I am appealing to men to take care of us and to women – make your voices heard
‘My Body’ was originally produced in 1983 and taught in schools around the world as part of a sexual abuse prevention programme. It samples a song by educational psychologist Peter Alsop and touches on themes such as consent and boundaries, among others. The remake was conceptualised by Mike Sharman of Retroviral.
