SA newcomer Vaughn Prangley drops debut album Destination Unknown
South African rock musician Vaughn Prangley has released his debut album Destination Unknown.
The 10-track offering is available for download and streaming on all major digital service providers. It features local singer-songwriter Howie Combrink on the 10th track titled ‘Beside You’. Combrink also produced, engineered and mixed the album, which is entirely written by Prangley. Randy Merrill from Sterling Sound mastered the project.
Each song delves into the deeply emotional renderings of Prangley’s own past and present, allowing for anthemic singalongs like ‘Avalanche to the Sea’ and ‘Beside You’, while tracks like ‘Rise and Fall’, ‘Borders’ and ‘White Lies’ wrench the heart harder in its reflection, Prangley’s team said.
“Destination Unknown is officially out,” the 17-year-old Prangley wrote on social media. “I am so proud to share this melodic story with you all and cannot wait to hear what you think of it. A massive thank you to my amazing team and loyal listeners for making this dream a reality.”
‘White Lies’, Prangley says, “is a message of encouragement to anyone’s ears that may stumble upon it. The song shares the message of ‘be who you are and not who the world wants you to be.’ There are so many beautiful people out there that are too scared to express their true selves because of what others may think of them and so it is easier to lie and create a fake persona to block out the monsters that live among us.”
Prangley has self-styled his career with a string of well received singles and an EP titled Where it Begins, which secured him a spot as a finalist at the 2021 edition of Unsigned Only Music Competition in the US. Prangley started classical music training when he was nine years old and wrote his first song at the age of 13. He dropped his first single ‘Oasis’ last year, which was followed by ‘Green Eyes’. ‘Oasis’ reached No 1 on Mix FM’s SA Top 40 in February last year.
