SA State Theatre to host Zonke and Sibongile Khumalo for Women's Month
The South African State Theatre (SAST) will host two virtual performances by local artists Zonke Dikana and Sibongile Khumalo in celebration of Women's Month in August.
Zonke’s show will premiere on Women’s Day, 9 August, while Khumalo is set to perform on 30 August. Both shows will be streamed via the SAST’s YouTube channel and Facebook page at 3pm.
“Women’s Month this year will be observed under revolting conditions when our country and the global community is witnessing a surge in femicide and gender-based violence,” the SAST said.
“The SAST reiterates its denouncement of these horrific acts of violence. We say no to gender-based violence. Our heartfelt condolences go to the families of all those we have lost and wish recovery for survivors.”
Zonke’s rise to stardom was in 2011 following the release of her third album Ina Ethe, which was certified double platinum. Another of her albums, Give and Take Live, was certified gold two months after its release. It earned her a spot on Channel O's list of Africa's Top 10 Female Singing Sensations.
Khumalo is a living legend who has performed at many prestigious venues abroad, including the Royal Festival Hall (London), Ravinia Festival (Chicago) and Het Musik Teater (Amsterdam), and at major theatres, festivals and jazz clubs in South Africa.
Tickets to Zonke and Khumalo’s shows can be purchased here and here respectively.
