SA: Zakes Bantwini remixes Lauv's Modern Loneliness
South African singer and producer Zakes Bantwini has remixed ‘Modern Loneliness’ by US singer Lauv.
The song has been included on Lauv’s how i'm feeling (the extras) album, which is available for streaming here. Zakes Bantwini is the only African artist whose remix features on the offering, alongside Ghostt (Brazil), Merk & Kremont (Italy), Diskover (Brazil), LVNDSCAPE (Netherlands), Vaundy (Japan), Sihan (China), MYGAL (Spain) and Ritviz (India).
“During this time the concept of modern loneliness is extremely important and relevant,” Zakes Bantwini told Music In Africa. “When I first heard this song, I realised this was an opportunity I could not turn away. Having not known Lauv the artist, after some research I was made aware of how massive he really is on a global scale.
“What was really impressive is that he is completely independent in what he has achieved and this is a real inspiration for me. I hope that my take on the song will spread the message far and wide over and above Lauv’s existing audience in South Africa.”
Bantwini says he is currently developing his brand outside Africa with a management team in Europe.
“I am learning new things every day, having developed a team based in Germany to support me in my journey. For me it is important to collaborate with the best of the best across genres to show true diversity and to amplify my understanding of the African territory.”
Zakes Bantwini’s manager, Sarah Jane Nicholson, says the new remix is an important step towards amplifying her mission to bridge the gap between Africa and the rest of world.
“Having Zakes to remix this track among nine top global producers is an honour and a high-profile endorsement of Africa’s important role in the international music scene,” she said.
