
Samthing Soweto’s Amagents certified gold in SA
South African singer and songwriter Samthing Soweto has received a gold plaque for his single ‘Amagents’.

With 1 million views in the first five days after its release, the record topped South Africa’s Apple Music and Spotify charts and was trending at No 1 on YouTube.
“It’s gold now, ‘Amagents’ is gold,” Samthing Soweto said on social media. “Thank you everyone for supporting me by streaming this song. Truly makes me happy.”
The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) certifies singles and EPs gold after they have sold 10 000 units.
Released in June, ‘Amagents’ is a complex message from a father to his daughter, addressing the complexities of men while reminding her that he will always be her loving father.
Samthing Soweto launched his career as one of the founding members of a cappella group The Soil. In 2010, he released his debut album This N That Without Tempo, which was followed by Isphithiphithi in 2019. Isphithiphithi broke the record for the most pre-ads on Apple Music South Africa, which was previously held by Billie Eilish.
Born Samkelo Lelethu Mdolomba, Samthing Soweto is known for fusing R&B, jazz and Afro-soul and has worked with such artists as Sun-El Musician, with whom he released the highly successful track ‘Akanamali’ in 2017, and Black Coffee.
