SA’s Mi Casa and German duo YouNotUs join forces on Chucks
South African house group Mi Casa and German electro duo YouNotUs have released a collaborative single titled ‘Chucks’.
The single, which is a remake of Mi Casa’s 2020 track of the same name, marks the South African band’s first international collaboration after signing a record deal in May with Germany-based Afroforce1 Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group Africa.
‘Chucks’ is available for streaming and download on major streaming platforms and its video is due to be released in two weeks. Mi Casa and YouNotUs are scheduled to fly to Namibia where the ‘Chucks’ video will be filmed.
“It’s about making the most of every single moment because the future is not a given – all we have is right now and that time needs to be lived,” Mi Casa frontman J’Something said. “Getting the YouNotUs touch to ‘Chucks’ has completely transformed it and we cannot wait to see how it lifts people’s spirits and hopefully it will land on fertile soil.”
The two acts collaborated remotely to produce the track from their home bases in Johannesburg and Berlin. While ‘Chucks’ is a springtime release in Europe, it catches the tail end of summer in South Africa, dragging out some good times as life starts to return to normal in venues and on dancefloors around the country.
YouNotUs’ Tobias Bogdon and Gregor Sahm jointly said: “During the production, we were inspired by the longing for warm summer nights spent partying. We feel this song will guide us back into summer and a more carefree time.”
