Sierra Leone: Mos-B to host COVID-19 concert
Sierra Leonean singer Mos-B will host performers from across the continent during the Sing 4 Africa virtual concert on 22 August.
The event is an initiative of The Cotton Tree Talk, a digital show the musician hosts from France. It will stream live on various online platforms, including Mos-B's official Facebook page and YouTube channel.
More than 30 artists from eight African countries and the diaspora have been confirmed for the event. They include fellow Sierra Leoneans Showers Jalloh, Supa Saa, Queen Hajj, Freetown Uncut and Prince Boyah as well as Fidel (Zimbabwe), Suntaama (Ghana), Abdul Metal and General Ouzy (Guinea) and Ofat (Nigeria), among others.
Although a resident of France, Mos-B emphasised his undying dedication to the African continent and its resilient spirit.
“Africans have always battled adversity and displayed resilience," he said. "And now that we’re battling COVID-19, I want us to one more time show that same strength through the music that brings us together,” he said.
He also stressed his commitment to “bringing that African unity again to the forefront along with many other artists from all over the continent on the same platform, at the same time."
"The world will never be the same again. It’s time for Africans to lead the way,” he said.
The Sing 4 Africa concert is not the first of Mos-B’s efforts in the fight against the pandemic. In March, the award-winning singer and activist released ‘War Against Corona’, a song meant to raise COVID-19 awareness.
About the track’s composition, Mos-B said: “The message is a simple emphasis on what our world leaders are advising us. Wash your hands, don’t shake hands, in order to stop the spread of the disease.”
Throughout his career, Mos-B has released successful singles such as 'Traveller', 'Voices of the Wind', 'Bell of Freedom' and 'Back to My Roots and Culture'. He is also known for his 2018 album New Chapter.
