Spotify has launched a new career advice portal for artists called In Focus, which seeks to “help artists and their teams achieve their career goals”.
The platform offers 21 areas across five categories: Create, Promote, Connect, Earn and Learn. Each category recommends a wide range of relevant tools, resources, tips and educational materials from the Spotify for Artists team, industry experts and artists like Olivia Rodrigo, A$AP Ferg and Phoebe Bridgers to help artists achieve their goals.
Resources include topics about how musicians can level up their songwriting and how they can grow their fanbase, while the Earn Revenue as an Artist category comprises information about how to sell more merch, sell more tickets, earn streaming royalties, create new revenue streams and understand the music business.
“We built In Focus to address the biggest questions and most important goals we’ve been hearing from artists engaging with us on social media, through our help centre, and in one-on-one conversations,” Spotify said. “From these thousands of points of feedback from artists, we organised the site into the 21 biggest focus areas on artists’ minds in the music industry today … It’s like an artist manager in your pocket that arms you with the tools and guidance you need to nail each of your career goals.”
The company says its Spotify for Artists team “is on a mission to put artists at the centre of the music industry, providing the tools and insights they need to build thriving fan bases on Spotify”.
“Spotify for Artists senior brand marketing manager Rob Fink said: “We get it, the music industry today is complex – requiring artists and their teams to take on more responsibility than ever before. We’re always chatting with artists about the biggest questions and aspirations they have in their personal career journeys, and we designed In Focus as a direct result of that feedback … We want to remove the guesswork and help artists focus on what matters most to them so that they can reach their music goals.”
In Focus adds to Spotify’s efforts to give artists more control and help them take their careers to the next level. Other initiatives include music-idea generator app Soundtrap Capture, visualising tool Canvas and in-app recommendation service Marquee, which allows labels to advertise priority releases to customers on the platform.
