Tanzania: Ommy Dimpoz signs to Sony Music Africa
Tanzanian musician Ommy Dimpoz is set to embark on an exciting new chapter of his career after signing a recording deal with Sony Music Entertainment Africa.
Under the agreement, his future music will be released internationally through the label. Before the development, he was under the management of Rockstar Africa Record Label and Management Company, which is owned by Ali Kiba.
Commenting on the new signing, Sony Music Entertainment Africa managing director Sean Watson said: “It’s a proud moment having an artist of Ommy’s calibre decide to partner with us at Sony. We’re excited about joining forces with him to bring his amazing music to the ears of as many fans as we can.”
Ommy Dimpoz said: “I am excited and honoured to join Sony Music Africa, the home of talented artists globally. This partnership is a very important step in my music career and has come at the right time in my life. I am looking forward to a great partnership and a very successful venture with Sony Music Africa.”
Ommy Dimpoz started his music career as a backing vocalist for Tanzanian artist TID and later on branched out as a solo musician with the release of his first studio single ‘Nai Nai’ featuring Ali Kiba in 2015. The song topped the charts and gave him a solid entry into the East African entertainment scene. He went on to release other hits such as ‘Mama’, ‘Me and You’, ‘Tupogo’ and ‘Wanjera’, among others.
Apart from being a musician, the 33 year old is a comedian and fashion figure endorsing clothing brands such as GSM in Tanzania and Europa Art in South Africa alongside actress, model and media personality Pearl Thusi. He has an active fan base of 5.3 million followers on Instagram and close to 300 000 YouTube subscribers and 500 000 subscribers on Facebook.
Meanwhile, the singer has released his new single and music video titled ‘Dede’ featuring DJ Tira, Dladla Mshunqisi and Prince Bulo from South Africa.
