Team Salut’s Wow featured in iPhone 15 commercial
West African-British production duo Team Salut’s single ‘Wow’ has been featured in an iPhone 15 commercial, which formed part of the launch of Apple’s latest flagship smartphone in California, US, last month.
The group told Music In Africa that the song, which features Hungary-based Vietnamese artist Düki Tran, was created in 2021 but was sent to Apple when the opportunity arose through their publisher.
Comprising Sierra Leonean-Brit Glenard Kojo ‘Kojo P’ Patnelli and Ghanaian-Brit Gabriel Wood, commonly known as Aponchi Da Goat, the pair are popular within Afrobeats circles for their unique blend of dance and electronic elements. They shot to mainstream notice thanks to their work with leading names within the genre like Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy and Afro B, along with UK stars like Emeli Sandé and Rita Ora.
Speaking about the creative process, Team Salut revealed that following the viral success of their single ‘Boom Bam' they aimed for another fun and catchy Afro-fusion track. They began by working on the drums and melody and brainstorming lyric ideas, eventually landing on the concept of 'Wow'. They then reached out to Düki Tran for a verse, believing that his dance background and community would complement their sound. The result was successful.
According to the duo, this partnership marks a significant career milestone. “The main thing that excites us the most is having such a huge platform to show our sound to a whole new audience that we may have not been able to access where we are in our career,” Team Salut said. “We are one of the best at fusing Afro elements with pop and so being able to show that off is an amazing feeling. It will push us to make sure we are on top of our game and keep the momentum going.”
‘Wow’ is now available across all major digital streaming platforms.
