Tiwa Savage to rock Wireless Festival
Tiwa Savage will join a list of global stars at this year's Wireless Festival.
- Tiwa Savage will be performing at the Wireless Festival 2019.
This year, the festival will take place from 5 to 7 July at Finsbury Park, London. The line-up includes American stars Cardi B, Migos and Travis Scott. British acts Bugzy Malone and Ella Mai will also be performing.
The first set of performers were announced in January with some pomp by the festival. "We’re going to kick off your summer with the biggest party in London," the organisers wrote. "This is going to be one of the most lit nights of the summer - your Friday night headliners, yes PLURAL, are none other than the Queen of Rap, Cardi B, and the Kings of Atlanta, Migos; who are taking to the Main Stage for their first ever co-headline slot."
After that announcement of the headliners, no fresh details of performers were given until yesterday when an announcement was published on the festival's official blog: "If you thought this year’s line up couldn’t get any better, you were wrong. We’ve just added 5 more HUGE names to the bill. Lil Yachty, THEY, One Acen, Lotto Boyzz and Tiwa Savage join the previously announced Cardi B, Migos, Travis Scott, A$AP Rocky, Future and more."
Since 2005, the Wireless Festival has featured some of pop music's biggest stars including Jay-Z, Daft Punk, Kanye West and Bruno Mars. In 2016, Tiwa Savage's occasional collaborator and countryman Wizkid was scheduled to perform at the festival. He was, however, a no-show, a situation that was blamed on visa problems.
This year Tiwa Savage and Maleek Berry will be onstage. For Tiwa Savage, whose last body of work, the Sugarcane EP, was well-received, it is a historic event. Over on Twitter, she shared the news and reminded her audience about the stakes. "Might be wrong but I think I’m the first Afrobeats female to do this," she tweeted. "No pressure but we GON kill it by HIS grace."
