Tracklib taps SoundCloud as preferred distributor
American sampling service Tracklib has selected Repost by SoundCloud as its preferred distribution platform.
Repost is the distribution and creator services division of SoundCloud. Through the partnership, users will be able to distribute their Tracklib-sampled songs via Repost. Streaming revenue will be reported automatically to Tracklib and paid to the right parties using Repost’s automated payment splits feature.
The partnership is expected to support quick and automated digital revenue payments, allowing creators to spend more time making music.
To track the digital revenues directly, users can simply add soundcloud.com/tracklib in the split pay section of the Repost by SoundCloud dashboard with the percentage share according to their sample license from Tracklib. Once the song is distributed through Repost by SoundCloud, users will receive an International Standard Recording Code.
“Tracklib is pleased to partner with Repost by SoundCloud to refine, simplify and further automate the process of clearing samples,” Tracklib CEO and co-founder Pӓr Almqvist said. “We look forward to continuing making improvements in the industry with Repost by SoundCloud. SoundCloud has always been an important and creator-first platform, so this partnership resonates well with us.”
SoundCloud vice-president and head of creator Jeff Ponchick said: “At SoundCloud we are fundamentally impressed with the problem that Tracklib is solving for artists and producers around sample licensing, Tracklib’s offering is the ideal complement for Repost by SoundCloud creators to have access to, and we look forward to working alongside them to help drive revenue for artists in a new and compelling way.”
Tracklib recently secured more than $12m in funding led by the Sony Innovation Fund. The sampling platform is reportedly using it to develop its community and enable partnerships with producers and artists, which include producer Frank Dukes, Timbaland’s Beat Club and Native Instruments.
Tracklib claims it is the only sampling platform to support automated royalty payments with specific, vetted distributors. Its catalogue comprises more than 100 000 original recordings from over 400 record labels and publishers around the world, from Isaac Hayes to Bob James. Its samples have been used by musicians including J. Cole, Mary J. Blige, Lil’ Wayne and DJ Khaled.
